ABOUT US

Carpe Diem – ‘Enjoy the moment’

We are consumed in the phenomenon called ‘carpe diem’. Don’t we all live by the motto of seizing the day and making the most of each moment? Consumerism feeds us the list of ten things that makes our lives perfect, five points to feel the happiest and seven tips for a picture perfect vacation. We have ‘Platinum’ ideas to propose; ‘Uber’ chic ways to travel and super ‘Smart phones’ to create a high definition collage of memories filled with Selfies. Selfie has taken over the world by storm, reinvented the way we look at ourselves and the way we project ourselves. In a temporary moment of achieving ‘Carpe Diem’, we risk our lives to click that one extraordinary photo not realising how dangerous it may be. Selfies taken on adventurous trail and in bizarre situations, in a bid to capture the thrilling moments, can lead to accidents or prove fatal.

#SelfieToDieFor, in its literal sense, means “dying" to take a cool selfie that will garner more likes and comments on social media.Data analytics show that with the increase in the usage of smart phones , there are 14 selfies taken on an average per day by the millenials. A survey done by confused.com indicated that 7% of motorists have admitted to taking selfies while driving. The recent media reports (Reuter) states that the number of selfie related deaths have been on the upward swing since 2014. It is being reported that the rise is practically more than the number of shark related deaths. Be it deaths due to dare devil poses in front of the trains or taking panoramic views of the ghats, be it standing on top of bridge with live electric wires or be it capturing oneself while driving – Selfie related deaths are here to stay till we collectively raise an awareness on the hazards.

#SelfieToDieFor is thus an educative public awareness campaign aimed to create awareness on the life hazards of taking selfies at risky locations.

The #SelfieToDieFor project is conceptualized by Deepak Gandhi, who is committed to spread the message of taking ‘Safe Selfies’ across the globe. Having witnessed these obscure incidences of selfie taking by bikeriders, he decided to start this educative public awareness campaign #selfietodiefor with a single agenda of spreading the movement and generating awareness. He intends to spread the movement to ensure that the number of accidents & deaths owing to risky selfie clicking starts decreasing.

Be a part of this Millenial movement.
